Carpenter Foreman

Eastern Illinois University’s Department of Facilities, Planning, and Management is seeking a Carpenter Foreman.   This position is in a promotional line.

To qualify, the candidate must have successfully completed a recognized Carpenter apprenticeship program or have four (4) years of full-time journeyman-level Carpenter experience and have five (5) years of additional full-time journey-level carpenter experience and a valid Illinois driver’s license.

Program Assistant - Engagement Coordinator

Position:  12-month Engagement Coordinator for the Lumpkin College Hub for Engagement, Leadership, and Professionalism

Responsibilities: Lumpkin College is searching for an Engagement Coordinator, with primary responsibility for coordinating student engagement and professional development activities of the Hub. Areas include working to connect external industry partners and students, encouraging and managing student internships throughout the college, creating and managing a co-curricular program for undergraduate student personal and professional development, working with internal constituencies to ensure these activities are successful, writing articles on various engagement activities for publication in a regular newsletter, preparing and posting to various social media platforms to enhance Lumpkin College brand and build strong online communities, maintaining knowledge of career opportunities in the various undergraduate disciplines in the college, and representing Lumpkin College in internal and external recruiting venues. Commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence is required. Salary range $42,500-$50,000.

Estimated Starting Date: August 1, 2022 or as soon thereafter as possible

Qualifications:  Master’s degree with an educational background related to business and/or technology or a bachelor's degree in a discipline related to business and/or technology and two years of professional experience, preferably in a business/industry setting. This position also requires strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize, meet deadlines and balance multiple projects simultaneously.

Program Director - Director of the School of Extended Learning

The Eastern Illinois University’s College of Education is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of the School of Extended Learning. This position will be responsible for the daily oversite of the School of Extended Learning. Duties of this position will include:

  • Seek out prospective new clients and prepare Request for Proposals to outline the duties and responsibilities of the School of Extended Learning.
  • Plan and facilitate non-credit programs. Determine the facility/site to be used for non-credit programs, establish and schedule activities, and develop marketing materials to promote the programs. Register participants and plan for meals, hotel rental, and program supplies. Obtain presenters, negotiate compensation travel arrangements and accommodations. Arrange to receive payments from participants and pay vendors. Facilitate and supervise on-site program set-up, registration, and confer with client throughout conference to assure their needs are met.
  • Facilitate the credit programming for the School of Extended Learning with our partners. Collaborate with academic departments on undergraduate and graduate off campus cohort programs.
  • Develop a budget for existing and new non-credit programs. Determine projected costs, revenue and expenditures, and estimate registration fees. Act as fiscal agent for accounts.
  • Monitor enrollment figures, income, and expenditures for non-credit programs to determine if it is cost effective.
  • Manage operations of existing non-credit programs from implementation to completion of program.
  • Some traveling may be required.

Requirements: Master’s degree and two years of experience in Extended Learning/Continuing Education, Adult Education, Event Planning, or a related area. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in budget, event planning, supervision, current technology (i.e. Microsoft Programs, specifically Access; videoconferencing such as Zoom/Teams).

Human Resource Assistant - Housing and Dining Services

Eastern Illinois University’s Housing and Dining Services has an opening for a Human Resource Assistant. This position manages the student hiring process for Dining, and supports scheduling, payroll, training, and compliance activities in regard to student employment. Duties may include:

Business/Administrative Associate - CDS Business Administrator

Eastern Illinois University is seeking candidates for a full-time Civil Service position of CDS Business Administrator (BA) in the Communication Disorders and Sciences Department (CDS).

The BA responsibilities include coordinating business and/or fiscal operations within and across the CDS Department, Autism Center and SLH Clinic units, managing reporting activities, assessing and delivering administrative reports, participating in budget development and/or strategic fiscal planning; coordinating the maintenance of records for business, fiscal, clinical, grant, and department operations. Duties also include facilitating internship contract negotiations, coordinating contract management, and collaborating on the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures relative to the business and/or fiscal operations of all units. Other BA duties include monitoring, researching, and distributing information regarding changes in policies, procedures, and/or requirements relative to the fiscal and administrative operations of all units and ensuring compliance with institution and grant funding guidelines relative to the fiscal operations of the units.

Qualified candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, finance, or a closely related field.
  2. Two (2) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience.
  3. Work experience in an area of financial and administrative duties related budget management, tracking, and reporting required. Experience in a clinical and/or academic program within a university as well as vendor, clinical, and internship contracts is preferred.

(Note:  A Master’s Degree in business administration, management, finance, or closely related field may be substituted for one year of work experience.)

Additional skills needed for this position are:

  • Proficiency in writing and editing reports and other materials that reflect an appreciation for the report audience as well as the accuracy required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including communicating effectively with a variety of stakeholders including faculty, staff, grant agencies, and clients/families with communication disorders, as well as organizational and time management skills required
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and experience working in other Microsoft Office applications required.

Due to the nature of this position, experience with budgets and knowledge of accounting, finance and cost control principles, tracking accounts receivables and expenses, developing financial projections, documentation of spending and grant deliverables, and grant reporting, preferred.

Retail Manager

Eastern Illinois University is seeking candidates for a full-time Civil Service position of Retail Manager in the University Union Bookstore. This position oversees the operations and budget for the Union Bookstore. Other duties will include:

  • Responsible for all staff, customer service, inventory, and issues with policy or procedures.
  • Work with Dual Credit Coordinator to provide low cost textbooks for dual credit courses.
  • Work with Faculty, Publishers, RedShelf and ITS to ensure online learning materials are available.
  • Provide the Business Office with monthly billing reports and monthly inventory reports.

  1. Associate’s degree in any field. Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field preferred.

Medical Technologist III

Medical Technologist III

Eastern Illinois University’s Health and Counseling Services is seeking candidates for a Medical Technologist III. This is a full-time, 12-month position. Benefits include:  paid vacation, sick leave, health and life insurance, retirement program options, and tuition waivers.

Qualified candidates must be:

  • An Illinois resident
  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Have a bachelor’s degree,
  • Have graduated from an accredited program for Medical Laboratory Scientists and be board certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent agency,
  • and have five years of experience as a clinical laboratory technologist in a clinical laboratory of a hospital or out-patient clinic, two years of which must have been at a level comparable to that gained at the Level II of this series
  • or a Master’s degree in medical technology, biology, microbiology, chemistry, physiology or closely related field, or a MBA plus a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology and four years of experience as a clinical laboratory technologist in a clinical laboratory of a hospital or out-patient clinic, two years of which must have been at a level comparable to the Medical Technologist II.

Responsibilities include: management and oversight of the HCS Medical Clinic Laboratory, including, but not limited to: supervision and training; equipment procurement, utilization, and maintenance; financial management of supplies and inventory; compliance with state and federal regulations; maintains the Laboratory Information System; and regulates lab quality control functions. The Medical Technologist is responsible for interpreting laboratory orders, establishing and performing test procedures, and coordinating services within other departments.

Medical Social Associate

Eastern Illinois University’s Health and Counseling Services—Counseling Clinic is seeking candidates for a Medical Social Associate. This position reports directly to the Associate Director for Counseling Services, who reports to the Executive Director, Health and Counseling Services

Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s  or Master’s degree in social or behavioral science or a related health science specialty from an accredited college or university and one (1) year (12 months) of progressively more responsible full-time experience in the practice of social services/agencies or medical/clinical setting maintaining acceptable standards of social work standards.

Responsibilities of the  Medical Social Associate include: providing entry point access to individuals seeking counseling clinic services; screening and assessing students to determine appropriate level of care needed; assisting with providing immediate crisis intervention and response to students in need;  scheduling appointments by phone; facilitating student intake process; coordinating services with internal providers and external services/programs; referring to other services and programs which can meet the students’ needs; counseling students on their services needs and providing guidance as necessary;  performing simple procedures related to the care of students and clerical duties as needed; maintaining current case records; writing reports; collecting/maintaining information about community resources; entering and verifying data into the EMR system;  scanning and maintaining client files for paperless charting system; maintaining data throughout the year for annual report and research for evaluation of services; creating templates, administering and maintaining the Medicat EMR application.  

This is a permanent, full-time, 12-month. Benefits include:  paid vacation, sick leave, health and life insurance, retirement program options, and tuition waivers. Rate of pay shall be commensurate with experience.

Assistant Director of University Student Center

This position will assist in directing the operations of the MLK Jr. University Union; supervise and assume responsibility for the operation of assigned areas; and assist with the implementation of policies and procedures.

Police Lieutenant

Eastern Illinois University in Charleston is seeking candidates for a University Police Lieutenant position. This position is in a promotional line.

Employees in positions allocated to this level are responsible for assisting in the overall management of police activities and personnel. They work under general direction from higher level personnel.

An EIU Police Lieutenant safeguards lives and property, enforces applicable laws and regulations, and promotes positive university/community relations. The typical duties include:  foot/bike/vehicle patrol, investigate incidents, make arrests, conduct investigations as required, and submit reports to supervisors, direct traffic and enforce parking and traffic rules and regulations; investigate and report obstructions and faulty utility services or unusual conditions that might endanger the public safety; assist local police agencies during emergencies. The lieutenant will also manage and supervise the activities of designated personnel; organize and structure work; participate in the hiring and promotional process; insure the proper appearance, performance of duty, and conduct of all subordinates; develop and maintain employee performance records and recommend disciplinary action when necessary; conduct disciplinary investigations of infractions, performance, and complaints; assume responsibility for meeting institutional public safety requirements by maintaining effective work performance and workforce utilization; develop and implement operational policies and procedures;  represent the department to the public and other governmental and private agencies; provide effective response to emergency public safety needs; oversee the security for special events (e.g., athletic events, graduations, concerts, or protests); write police and administrative reports; assist with development of the departmental budget and fiscal management of the agency; perform all duties normally required in the lower levels of the Police Officer series as necessary; perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include: a Bachelor’s Degree or 120 semester hours credit granted by an accredited institution of higher education, preferably in police science, law enforcement, or other police or law curriculum and four (4) years of full-time experience as a police officer with a federal, state, county, college or university, municipal, or public institutional police organization having a recognized merit system, with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience in the field.

NOTE: Persons who have not successfully completed the mandated firearm training course, as approved and recognized by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board, must complete the course during their probationary period. Police officers are not authorized to carry a service weapon until successfully completing such training.

NOTE: Educational credit given only for coursework taken at a college/university accredited by one of the following associations:

  • Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
  • North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
  • New England Association of Schools and Colleges

IT Technical Associate – Technology Support Specialist

The Information Technology Services Help Desk at Eastern Illinois University is seeking candidates for the position of IT Technical Associate – Technology Support Specialist. Duties of this position are to handle incoming phone calls and create ticket requests for end users; install and upgrade software and configure systems and applications for desktops; access software updates, drivers, and knowledge bases to research problem resolution.

Qualified candidates should have two years of progressively more responsible work experience with end user support, end point device support and troubleshooting, and technical phone support, or a Bachelors’ degree in IT or computer technology-related field.

Storekeeper II

Eastern Illinois University Facilities Planning & Management (FPM) is seeking candidates for a Storekeeper II position in the Central Stores unit. This position is in a promotional line. Candidates should be self-starters; possess a positive attitude; have excellent customer service skills; and have excellent organizational abilities with attention to detail. This position provides specialized support by applying best practices to a wide variety of processes in accordance with appropriate procurement policies and procedures. The Storekeeper II reports to the Service Enterprise Manager in Central Stores. Duties include, and are not limited to: purchasing, receiving, storing, and issuing inventoried and non-inventoried items for campus departments, with associated documentation; warehousing operations, including equipment operation, loading and unloading delivery vehicles, lifting up to 50 pounds, and recording the transactions; delivering parts and supplies; conducting physical inventories; and working with vendors to ensure the University is receiving the best available pricing.

Office Manager - English

Eastern Illinois University is seeking candidates for a full-time Civil Service position of Office Manager in the English Department. This position will be responsible for general office support as well as serving as a liaison between the English department and other units a EIU and prospective students, conducting research assignments, reviewing and monitoring fiscal transactions of the department, and maintaining overall awareness of all organizational activities.

Qualified candidates must be a high school graduate or equivalent and have 24 months of clerical/office support work experience comparable to that performed at the Office Support Specialist level of this series or in other positions of comparable responsibility.

Office Administrator - FPM

Eastern Illinois University Facilities Planning & Management (FPM) is seeking candidates for an Office Administrator in the Building Service Worker (BSW) unit. This position is in a promotional line. Assistant Director of Physical Plant

Eastern Illinois University is seeking candidates for a full-time Civil Service position of Assistant Director of Physical Plant in our Facilities Planning and Management Department.

The Assistant Director of Physical Plant (AD) is responsible for the daily functions of the Support Services area of Facilities Planning & Management (FPM). Police Officer Lateral Transfer

The State University Civil Service System for Illinois now allows Eastern Illinois University to maintain a lateral transfer list for Police Officer positions. Interested law enforcement officers will be required to submit an application to be considered for this list. Applicants must be employed as a law enforcement officer from outside of our State Universities and employed at either a municipal law enforcement agency, a county sheriff’s office, Illinois State Police, or a similar municipal public safety department.
